A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life. Working with anxiety, depression & supporting you through trauma.
Hi, I’m Marc, a counsellor based in Hillsborough, Sheffield. I offer both short- and long-term therapy for people aged 13 and over, either face-to-face, online via Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, or through Walk & Talk sessions in Sheffield’s green spaces.
Life doesn’t always feel straightforward. There can be times when things feel overwhelming—whether that’s because of relationships, life events, or just a sense that something isn’t quite right. You might not even be sure what’s going on, just that things feel difficult. Talking to someone who’s trained to listen can help you make sense of it all, at your own pace, and start to feel more like yourself again.
I work with people from all kinds of backgrounds, each bringing their own unique experiences and challenges. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to figure it out alone. As a fully-qualified counsellor I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their code of ethics.
Choosing to come to counselling is a significant step and can often feel overwhelming or even frightening. My hope is that it becomes an opportunity for you to sit in a safe, protected space that is yours, where you can begin to explore whatever you are finding difficult.
As a trained counsellor, my role is to help you feel comfortable, supported, and safe. It’s also important that you find the right fit for you. I encourage you to take time to explore your options. If you choose to meet with me for an initial session, there is no obligation to continue if you feel I’m not the right counsellor for you. I can also support you in finding alternative routes to access therapy if that would be helpful.
People come to counselling for many different reasons—sometimes seeking answers to questions they may not yet fully understand. My approach is to work with whatever you choose to bring into the room, at your pace.
I also work in a trauma-informed way. This means I recognise that experiences of trauma can affect many aspects of a person’s life, including their emotional, psychological, and physical wellbeing. My practice is grounded in creating a sense of safety, trust, and empowerment throughout our work together.
Counselling offers you the opportunity to sit with a trained professional and engage in a supportive therapeutic relationship, where you can explore your difficulties at your own pace and in your own time. It is a contracted, professional space designed to facilitate personal growth and meaningful change.
I am trained as a Person-Centred Counsellor, which means I focus on what you bring into the room and work collaboratively with you. Alongside this, I integrate other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. This may include offering practical tools or setting tasks between sessions to support you in challenging unhelpful thoughts and beliefs.
I understand that starting counselling can feel daunting. It may involve exploring parts of your life that you have not shared before. Please be assured that our work together takes place in a confidential, safe, and non-judgmental space. I am here to work alongside you, supporting you in reaching the goals that feel important to you—whether these are clear from the outset or develop as our sessions progress.
Counselling can be challenging and scary. It can involve discussing aspects of your life that you may not have spoken about before. I may ask questions about your childhood and what that felt like for you. I may ask questions about your sex life which sometimes can feel uncomfortable. However sex is an important part of who we are and is an important part of relationships that we have. This is why I stress the importance of confidentiality and keeping you safe in the room.
People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Overwhelm
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Depression
Confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family, school life
Parenting
Sleep Issues
My sessions typically last for 50 minutes. I can provide face-to-face sessions at my therapy space, or online via secure platforms like Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. If you prefer, there's also Walk and Talk therapy where you can experience the power of nature to help you work through your problems.
I have my own private counselling space based in Hillsborough, Sheffield. It is served by great public transport links and has ample parking facilities. Although my premise is located in the Sheffield area, I appreciate this is not accessible for all and therefore would love to work with clients from all over the South Yorkshire region and beyond via an online method.
My room is in the Burton Street Foundation, an organisation which hosts local businesses as well as lots of local charities and community groups.
For one to one work my session fee is £58.00. Depending on your circumstances, I may be able to offer concessions.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07399437599 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
